New Line's The Wedding Singer Garners Five Tony Nominations Including Best Musical
NEW YORK- (May 16, 2006) -- The Wedding Singer, the new musical comedy adapted from the hit New Line film, earned five Tony Award nominations today, including Best Musical.
Other categories in which the production received nominations are: Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical, Stephen Lynch; Best Book in a Musical, Chad Beguelin and Tim Herlihy; Best Original Score, Music: Matthew Sklar, Lyrics: Chad Beguelin; and Best Choreography, Rob Ashford.
The 60th annual Tony Awards will be announced on June 11 at Radio City Music Hall and live on CBS.
The Wedding Singer opened on Broadway at the Al Hirschfeld Theater on April 27. The 1980’s era romantic comedy is produced for the stage by Margo Lion (who previously produced the Tony Award-winning Hairspray) and New Line.
